In short: WAU does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data to external servers. All your exploration data stays on your device.

1. Who We Are

2. What Data WAU Uses

WAU is a location-based exploration app that uses your device's GPS to track areas you've visited and display them on a map. The app processes the following data:

Location data (GPS coordinates) — Used to show your position on the map, record exploration tracks, and reveal areas you've visited. This includes foreground and optional background location access.
Device motion data — Used to detect movement and optimize location tracking.
Exploration statistics — Distance traveled, areas explored, session duration — all calculated and stored locally.

3. Health & Fitness Data

WAU derives health and fitness-related data from your location and motion sensors. This data is classified as Health Data under Google Play's data safety policies. Specifically, the app accesses and processes:

Physical activity / fitness data — Movement speed, distance traveled, session duration, and movement patterns are calculated from GPS coordinates to provide exploration statistics and optimize tracking.
Location-based activity tracking — The app continuously records GPS coordinates during active exploration sessions (foreground and optional background) to build a map of areas you have visited.

Important: All health and fitness data is processed and stored entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers or any third party. You have full control over this data — you can view it within the app and delete it at any time by removing individual track sessions or uninstalling the app.

4. Where Your Data Is Stored

100% on-device. All GPS tracks, exploration cells, session data, and statistics are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers or any third-party service.

5. What We Do NOT Collect

WAU does not collect, transmit, or have access to:

Your name, email, or any personal identity information
Your location data (it never leaves your device)
Analytics, usage metrics, or behavioral data
Device identifiers or advertising IDs
Cookies or tracking technologies
Contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or any other sensor data

6. No Accounts Required

WAU does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the app. There are no user profiles, no social features that transmit data, and no cloud synchronization.

7. No Third-Party Analytics or Advertising

WAU contains:

No advertising SDKs — no ads of any kind
No analytics SDKs — no Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, or similar
No crash reporting services that transmit data externally
No social media SDKs or tracking pixels

8. Map Tiles

WAU uses MapLibre GL to display map tiles. When you use the app, your device downloads map tile images from the map tile provider's servers. This is a standard connection that may expose your IP address and approximate viewing area to the tile server. This is inherent to how all map applications work and is not data that WAU collects or controls.

9. Deep Links

WAU supports sharing location links (e.g., https://getwau.app/open?action=destination&lat=...&lng=...). When someone opens such a link, it directs them to the app with the specified coordinates. No user data is collected through this mechanism.

10. Permissions Explained

Location (foreground) — Required to show your position and record exploration while the app is open.
Location (background) — Optional. Allows WAU to continue recording your exploration when the app is in the background (e.g., while cycling or driving with the screen off).
Motion sensors — Used to detect movement and optimize GPS tracking for battery efficiency.

You can revoke any permission at any time through your device's Settings. Revoking location access will prevent the app from recording new exploration data but will not delete existing data.

11. Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

To delete all data: Uninstall the app. This removes the local database and all stored exploration data.
To delete specific data: Use the app's built-in track session management to remove individual exploration sessions.

12. Children's Privacy

WAU does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no personal data is collected or transmitted, there is no age-related data concern.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
