WAU — When Adventure Unfolds

Your journeys,
painted on the map.

Hit record and go. As you walk, cycle, or drive, WAU draws a colored trail along your route — your personal fog of exploration. Over time, your map fills up with everywhere you've been.

The blank spots show where you haven't explored yet — that's where your next adventure is. Set up to 10 destinations as waypoints and let WAU guide you through them one by one.

Save favorite spots, share them with friends via QR code, and track your progress across continents. Import tracks from other apps to add past adventures. All data stays on your phone — no account, no cloud, no tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to get the most out of WAU.

🎯 How does WAU track my exploration?

When you tap the record button, WAU uses your phone's GPS to trace your route. A colored trail is drawn along your path on the map — like a fog that reveals where you've been. The more you move, the more of the map you uncover.

📱 Does it work in the background?

Yes! WAU continues recording even when the app is minimized or your screen is off. However, keeping the app in the foreground gives you the best GPS accuracy and more detailed trails. Background recording works well for longer trips where you don't need to watch the screen.

🤖 Android: What permissions does WAU need?

For the best experience on Android, WAU needs:

Location "Allow all the time" — so recording can continue in the background. Go to Settings → Apps → WAU → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time.

Disable battery optimization — Android may stop background apps to save battery. Go to Settings → Apps → WAU → Battery → Unrestricted (or "Don't optimize"). The exact steps vary by phone manufacturer.

Without these settings Android may pause or stop recording when the app is in the background.

🍎 iPhone: Any special settings needed?

On iPhone, grant "Always" location permission when the app asks. This allows background recording to work. iOS handles battery management automatically, so no extra settings are needed.

How do I save a favorite place?

Open the menu and tap My Places. Then tap + New and choose how to add your place:

Search — type an address or place name to find it.

Coordinates — enter exact latitude and longitude.

Current location — save where you are right now.

Scan QR — scan a QR code shared by a friend (see below).

You can organize places into groups and categories for easy browsing.

🔗 How do I share a place with a friend?

Open My Places, tap on the place you want to share, then tap the Share button. This generates a QR code containing the place details.

Your friend opens WAU, goes to My Places → + New → Scan QR, and scans your code. The place is instantly added to their collection — no internet required.

🗺️ Can I import tracks from other apps?

Yes! WAU can import GPX, KML, and GeoJSON files from hiking apps, fitness trackers, or any app that exports GPS tracks. Open the menu, tap Import Track, and select your file. The imported track will appear on your map and count toward your exploration progress.

🎨 Can I customize the look?

Yes! You can change the fog color to any color you like, and switch between day and night map modes. Open the menu to find these options.

🔒 Is my data private?

Absolutely. All your exploration data is stored only on your device. WAU doesn't have user accounts, doesn't collect analytics, and doesn't send your location anywhere. You're in complete control.

📶 Does it work without internet?

Recording and exploration tracking work completely offline. Your GPS tracks and fog are saved locally. You only need an internet connection to load the base map tiles when viewing new areas for the first time — once loaded, they're cached for offline use.
